| You can split a transaction any time you enter a new transaction or when you modify an existing transaction. See screenshot below of the split transaction button on a new expense screen. |
| It is preferrable to enter the amount of the transaction before you touch the split transaction button. That way the Split Transaction screen automatically updates the transaction total. |
| In the screen below, I have entered an amount of $100 before touching the split transaction button so the screen updates the transaction total and prefills the first row with the amount.. |
| At this point you can touch the first row and alter the amount. You can assign any category you wish. In the screenshot below I have altered the amount from $100 to $50 and assigned the split category as clothing. |
| When you are done touch save. Dough adds the split to the previous screen. You can now see all your splits on the same screen.
I have created two categories clothing and charity and assigned each an amount of $50. See below. |
| When you enter each split look at the Remainder Sub Total. This is the amount remaining. You can use this sub total to help you calculate the difference between what's entered as splits and what's remaining. |
| This will only work if you entered the amount before touching the split transaction button. |
| Now, about the Adjust and Clear buttons:. If your transaction total is different than the split total touching adjust assigns the split total to the transaction total.
This can be helpful if you didn't already enter a transaction amount before splitting the transaction or if the amount has really changed. |
| Below is an example of when the adjust button can be really useful. The total of all the splits are $109, but the transaction was originally created with the amount $75. In this case, if you touch Adjust, Dough will assign the Transaction total to $109. |
| Important: If you save the transaction with different split total and transaction total, all your reports will be inaccurate.
If the split total is different from the transaction total make sure you touch adjust before saving the transaction. |
| The clear button clears all the splits. Why would you want to do this? If you ever wanted to assign this transaction back from a split to a regular transaction (single category), this is how you would do it. |
| Touch save when you are done. |
